Daddy, Daddy
“Delight
yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”
~Psalm 37:4 (NIV)

Chapter 7: Daddy, Daddy
The next part of Psalm 37 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give
you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4). Boy, doesn’t this sound simple? Can it possibly be that
easy to receive the desires of our hearts? Well, I think we can receive the desires of our hearts when we first align
ourselves with God’s Word and do what He requires from us. The first thing we need to do is trust Him with every
detail of our life … not just the major details, but the minor ones also. We must let Him be Lord over every
decision. This naturally leads us into a place where we desire to simply delight ourselves in Him.
I remember when I was just starting a new job.
My boss was teaching me some things on the computer when his wife and two daughters came into the office. They were
out in the hallway, and we were in one of the side rooms. I remember that before they came, his focus was completely
on teaching me the task at hand, but that all changed when his little girls showed up. His one little girl kept saying,
“Daddy, Daddy.” She was trying desperately to get his attention from quite a distance away, and she definitely
had achieved her goal.
He could no
longer focus on the task at hand. All he could do was think about that little voice that kept calling out his name.
He said, “I’m so sorry, I just can’t concentrate. The sound of her voice makes me happy.”
He grinned from ear to ear and let her know that she could come in and sit on his lap. From that time on, he was more
focused and was able to finish teaching me what I needed to know on the program.
After he left, I remember crying and thanking God for showing me something so special
in that moment. Not only does the sound of that little girl’s voice shake her daddy’s attention, but the
sound of my voice brings a smile to my Heavenly Father’s face, too. God showed me in that moment how much He loves
it when I call His name. He is delighted by the times I simply say, “Daddy, I need You. I love You.
Can You be there for me? Can I sit on Your knee?”
Those times are so valuable to God because in those moments everything ceases to be in my mind.
My only desire is to delight myself in Him by sitting on His knee and basking in His presence. I learned a valuable
lesson that day. My desires do not simply come to pass because I want them to come. No, they are given to me through
the Father’s gentle hand when I surrender myself to Him and simply delight in His way alone.

This book has been given a tremendous opportunity
to be used in the prisons across America through Prison Fellowship. I count it a great joy to watch God’s
love be expressed through the words in this book to inmates who want to further their relationship with God.
I am praying that you too will choose to partner with me in this great adventure. I have been told that the
prisons will take as many books as they can get and many of the inmates would enjoy an opportunity to read this book.
All it takes is a $5 donation to get one book into the
hands of someone who desires to know God in a deeper way. You can make it possible! We have been able
to send 100 books so far and would love to send many more. I will be posting chapters from my book all throughout
this week to give you an idea of what you will be supporting. Here is a link for more information about the
Prison ministry and the way to donate, if you so choose to help in this way.
